Stamp Issue “Sixth Patriarch – Hui Neng”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Sixth Patriarch – Hui Neng” on 10^th March, 2022. The Sixth Patriarch, Hui Neng (638-713 AD), who had the surname Lu, was a native of Xinzhou (Xinxing County, Guangdong Province) in the Tang Dynasty. He was appointed as the Sixth Patriarch by the Fifth Patriarch, Hong Ren, due to his verse – “Fundamentally there is no Bodhi tree, nor stand of a mirror bright, since all is void from the beginning, where can the dust alight?”.

This issue includes a set of five stamps and one souvenir sheet. The images are illustrated by the Macao painter, Mr. Sun Jiang Tao. The legendary life of the Sixth Patriarch is depicted in the stamps through the illustration of the scenes about “Receiving Dharma in Huangmei”, “Enlightening in Huaiji and Sihui”, “Debate on Wind and the Moving Flag in Guangxiao Temple”, “Carrying forward Buddhism in Caoxi” and “Passing away at the Guoen Temple”. The theme of the souvenir sheet is “Eternal Platform Sutra and Imperishable Body”, which portrays the imperishable body of the Sixth Patriarch, and the “Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch” which brings together his quotes and teachings.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Sun Jiang Tao (Adapt. Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau), who is also the writer of the text of the information brochure.

This is the fourth theme of 2022 issues. The previous issued stamps are “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 05/01/2022, “Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022” on 25/01/2022, the label stamp “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 15/02/2022, and “Red Cotton Tree Flower” will be issued on 01/03/2022.
