Stamp Issue “Chinese Classical Poetry – Poems of Tang Dynasty”

Following the stamp theme “Ballad of Mulan”, the stamp series “Chinese Classical Poetry” issued in 2016, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will release the second issue with the stamp theme “Chinese Classical Poetry – Poems of Tang Dynasty” on 28^th September, 2020.

The Tang Dynasty is often considered the golden age of the development of Chinese classical poetry. In this period, a great number of famous poets came forward, leaving more than 50 thousand poems in classic books and passing them on to later generations. The “Poems of Tang Dynasty”, is one of the precious cultural heritage of the Chinese nation and the greatest contribution to Chinese culture. The “Poems of Tang Dynasty” and the “Poems of Song Dynasty” are called the “two maxims” of Chinese classical poetry; they are adored by the world because of its highly symbolic and suggestive language, neat and balanced form, as well as its profound meaning.

This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet, dedicated to five poems from the Tang Dynasty, included “Thoughts on a silent night”, by Li Bai; “Happy rain on a spring night”, by Du Fu; “Yearning”, by Wang Wei; “River snow”, by Liu Zongyuan; and “Invitation to the river pavilion with a view of the sunset”, by Bai Juyi.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows:

The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Chan Chi Vai, and the text of the information brochure is written by Mr. Yin Degang.
