STAMP ISSUE “LOTUS FLOWER”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Lotus Flower” on 9^th October, 2017. Macao is often referred to as “Blessed Land of Lotus”. Since the peninsula is like a lotus shape, the land connection with Mainland China is called “Lotus stem”. In the Geographical Map of the “Gazetteer of Xiangshan County”, this landmark has long been recorded. Macao residents have a deep affection knotted with lotus, which is favoured by the people. Lotus represents the pursuit of harmonious and brilliant life, at the same time it becomes the symbol of Macao.

This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet. The famous artist in Macao, Mr. Lei Tak Seng, has showcased the charming posture of lotus flower by means of Chinese painting with modern design, which undoubtedly filled with his deepest affection towards Macao. Through adoption of compatible skill and artistic conception, the image of lotus being illustrated by ink and colour has become the content of the stamp, manifesting the confidence towards the Chinese culture. Since the stamp can help to “Express feelings and messages”, it is believed that it can publicise Macao, as well as its lotus art and culture.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office and the Communications Museum, from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., the “Rua do Campo” Post Office, from 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., the Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office and the Airport Post Office, from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Lei Tak Seng, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Macao Lotus Cultural Association, Mr. Ieong Tou Hong and Mr. Chan Kai Chon.
