STAMP ISSUE “MAINLAND SCENERY VII”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will release the seventh issue of souvenir sheet series “Mainland Scenery” on 12^th April, 2018, Salt Wells and Fields of Mangkang County as the theme of this issue, it has already been listed as the 7^th Batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level in the form of official announcement on 3^rd May, 2013.

Salt Wells and Fields of Mangkang County, situated in the Changdu region in the southeast of the Tibet Autonomous Region, adjacent to Nord Yunnan Plateau, is an important relay station of the Ancient Tea Horse Road (Cha Ma Gu Dao) which gave access to the Tibetan Area from Yunnan in the ancient times. According to historical record, the activity of brine evaporation started during the Tang Dynasty where the craft of manual brine evaporation has sustained and is still practiced today. Salt wells and fields are distributed in the east and west coast of the Lancang River.

On the east coast of the Lancang River, salt fields in the Naxi ethnic towns are built along the slopes of the mountain making the scenery a first-tier beauty of stilt houses. On the west coast, the salt fields in Jiada village are built along the surfaces of dirt roads to the intervals between the gentle slopes by the riverside. Hundreds of salt fields of different shapes and sizes are interlocking atop one another within such a narrow strip.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office and the Communications Museum, from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., the “Rua do Campo” Post Office, from 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., the Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., and the Airport Post Office, from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The image captured for this souvenir sheet and the text for the information brochure are came from the veteran photographer of Macao Mr. Lou Kam Ieng. The composition of this souvenir sheet is designed by Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau.

This is the third theme in 2018. The previous issued stamps are “Lunar Year of the Dog” on 05/01/2018, the label stamp “Lunar Year of the Dog” on 31/01/2018, and “Macao 2018 – 35^th Asian International Stamp Exhibition (I)” on 01/03/2018.
