STAMP ISSUE “FESTIVALS – FEAST OF KUN IAM”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Festivals – Feast of Kun Iam” on 25^th March, 2019. In China, on different dates of the lunar calendar, four festivities are held in honor of Kun Iam, Goddess of Mercy: February 19 (birthday), June 19 (day of enlightenment), September 19 (day of ascension) and November 19 (day of assumption as sea goddess). On these dates, there are many activities and celebrations in the temples dedicated to this divinity. February 19, the birthdate of Kun Iam, is especially celebrated with grandiose celebrations.

Avalokiteśvara, god of compassion and forgiveness, a Buddha shows himself in different forms, including the feminine one, Kun Iam, who liberates beings from disturbance and suffering. This issue includes a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet, the paintings are selected from the Macao painter Sou Farong, representing three manifestations of Kun Iam: “Kun Iam with Lotus”, “Kun Iam with Branch of Willow” and “Peaceful Kun Iam”.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office and the Communications Museum, from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., the “Rua do Campo” Post Office, from 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., the Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., and the Airport Post Office, from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. Besides the above philatelic products, two special gift sets contain one porcelain plate painting with philatelic products with the theme “Festivals – Feast of Kun Iam” will also be released, each prestigious gift box contains one porcelain plate painting (150 x 290 mm) illustrating “Kun Iam with Lotus” or “Kun Iam with Branch of Willow”, and a presentation pack with a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet of the same issue, each porcelain plate painting priced at MOP430.00.
