STAMP ISSUE “MACAO LOTUS”

During every midsummer, the season of lotus, “National Lotus Flowers Exhibition” and “Macao Lotus Flower Festival” are held in Mainland China and Macao in June respectively. This year, to celebrate the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20^th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), the bid to the host of “National Lotus Flowers Exhibition” went to Macao for the third time, and Macao will co-organize “The 33^rd National Lotus Flowers Exhibition and the 19^th Macao Lotus Flower Festival” in the theme of “The Scent of Lotus Perfumes Macao for Two Decades” from 3^rd to 16^th of June with the China Flower Association.

On this occasion, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Macao Lotus” on 3^rd June, 2019, the public can appreciate and cherish the “beauty” and “meaning” of lotus together to promote the idea of ecology and nature conservation.

This issue includes a set of three stamps and one souvenir sheet, the images are illustrated by a famous Macao painter, Ieong Tai Meng. The lotus flowers chosen for the three stamps are the three lotus species, which specially dedicated to Macao, namely: Nelumbo nucifera cv. ‘Haojiang Hong’, Nelumbo nucifera cv. ‘Haojiang Yue’ and Nelumbo nucifera cv. ‘Haojiang Bi bo’. The lotus flower chosen for the souvenir sheet - Nelumbo nucifera cv. ‘Haojiang Qing’ is the forth lotus species named after Macao’s nickname “Hou Kong”, which is a new variety cultivated by the China Lotus Research Center to celebrate the 20^th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR. It was awarded “Gold Medal” in the new lotus species competition of the 32^nd National Lotus Flowers Exhibition.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office and the Communications Museum, from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., the “Rua do Campo” Post Office, from 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., the Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., and the Airport Post Office, from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The composition of this issue is designed by Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Department of Green Areas and Gardens of the Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR.
