Stamp Issue “Animal Protection II”

The International Union for Conservation of Nature considers that approximately 31,000 species on our planet are threatened with extinction, and that the data collected shows that the highest percentage of those species live in the seas and oceans. The number of endangered species in the world is growing rapidly every day, due to environmental problems and the impact of mankind’s irresponsible actions on nature.

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Animal Protection II” on 9^th October, 2020, this is the second issue of the same series after issued in 2014, with the intend of drawing the attention of the whole world, especially those who have decision-making capacity, to the urgent need for conservation measures in order to alleviate and / or prevent the extinction of species.

This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet, the stamps are illustrated four endangered animals, included:  Amur leopard, Humpback whale, Hawksbill turtle and Cross river gorilla. The stamp design concept is based on a diagonal line as a contrast to show animals in their healthy and destructed habitat. In the souvenir sheet, the protagonists are a Javan Rhino from land and a Vaquita from ocean, represent that in a balanced ecosystem, all living beings play an important role and are interconnected.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows:

The stamp designer of this issue is Ms. Helena Man In, Ng, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Anima – Society for the Protection of Animals (Macau).
