Stamp Issue “Mainland Scenery VIII”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will release the eighth issue of souvenir sheet series “Mainland Scenery” on 1^st March, 2021, Hukou Waterfall as the theme of this issue, it was listed as a national natural scenic spot in 1988 and one of the “40 Best Tourist Attractions in China” by China National Tourism Administration in 1991. In January 2002, the 45-square-kilometer area of the Hukou Waterfall was designated as a National Geological Park and a national AAAA tourist attraction.

Hukou Waterfall is located in the middle section of the Yellow River Basin, when the Yellow River reaches the west bank of the Hukou, the surface of the river looks very calm, but the river bottom shelves here. The 400-meter wide Yellow River suddenly narrows and is forced violently through a 30- to 50-meter-wide gorge before falling turbulently as a waterfall, where the topographic structure of the riverbed is shaped like a giant tea kettle, collecting all the surging water and forms the waterfall, hence the name Hukou (“kettle spout” in Chinese). It is one of the three major waterfalls in China, along with the Detian Waterfall in China–Vietnam border and Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows:

The image captured for this souvenir sheet and the text for the information brochure are came from the veteran photographer of Macao Mr. Lou Kam Ieng. The composition of this souvenir sheet is designed by Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau.

This is the third theme of 2021 issues. The previous issued stamps are “Lunar Year of the Ox” on 05/01/2021, the label stamp “Lunar Year of the Ox” on 20/01/2021, and “120^th Anniversary of the Printing Bureau” to be issued on 22/02/2021.
