Stamp Issue “Red Cotton Tree Flower”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Red Cotton Tree Flower” on 1st March, 2022. The Red Cotton Tree Flower, with a scientific name of Bombax ceiba, commonly known as Cotton Tree, is also named Hero Tree, Panzhihua, Bonfire Tree. In Macao, it is very common to find them in parks, gardens and green belts. Among them, there are some century-old trees, distributed in places such as Luís de Camões Park, Lou Lim Ioc Park, Flora Park and A-Ma Temple and so on.

 

The Red Cotton Tree Flower is large and beautiful, which is usually in red, sometimes in orange-red, and rare in yellow. The delicate beauty and elegant posture of the Red Cotton Tree Flower have made it an object of singings and praises from ancient and modern literati. Widely-recited poems and famous verses, and works such as paintings and photography are very popular.

 

This issue includes a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet. The images are illustrated by the Macao painter, Mr. Ieong Tai Meng. The magnificence of the blooming flowers is revealed on the paper. Let us savor the beauty of the Red Cotton Tree Flower from the stamp.

 

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Ieong Tai Meng (Adapt. Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau), and the text of the information brochure is written by the Municipal Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

 

This is the third theme of 2022 issues. The previous issued stamps are “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 05/01/2022, “Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022” on 25/01/2022, and the label stamp “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 15/02/2022.
