On 16^th November, 1972, the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted by the 17^th General Conference of UNESCO held in Paris. The Convention has defined Cultural and Natural Heritage, and also standardized the protection measures at both national and international levels. The “Historic Centre of Macao” was inscribed on the UNESCO’s “World Heritage List” on 15^th July, 2005, making it the 31^st designated World Heritage site in China.

As Macao is a world cultural heritage city, on the occasion of the 50^th Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Convention, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “50^th Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage” on 10^th June, 2022 to promote the spirit of the Convention.

This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet. The images are illustrated by the Macao painter, Mr. Ung Vai Meng, presenting five representative historical monuments in the “Historic Centre of Macao”, including: Ruins of St. Paul’s, Mandarin’s House, St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church, A-Ma Temple and Dom Pedro V Theatre. 

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Ung Vai Meng, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.

This is the sixth theme of 2022 issues. The previous issued stamps are “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 05/01/2022, “Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022” on 25/01/2022, the label stamp “Lunar Year of the Tiger” on 15/02/2022, “Red Cotton Tree Flower” on 01/03/2022, “Sixth Patriarch – Hui Neng” on 10/03/2022, and “70^th Anniversary of the Nursery Service of the Women’s General Association” will be issued on 21/05/2022.
