Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau issued the stamp themes “Ballad of Mulan” and “Poems of Tang Dynasty” under the stamp series of “Chinese Classical Poetry” in 2016 and 2020. The third issue of the series with the stamp theme “Chinese Classical Poetry – Poems of Song Dynasty” will be issued on 18^th November, 2022.

The poems of the Tang Dynasty and Ci of the Song Dynasty are both important legacies of China’s cultural heritage. First, the lyricist selects the tune pattern. Then he follows its specific rules concerning word count, tones and rhymes in order to choose the words and rhymes of the Ci. Besides, he must also pay attention to the meaning of the lyrics. The difficulty level of all this is quite high. This is why Song Ci is considered the greatest achievement of Song Dynasty literature. Song Ci has both long and short verses, making it suitable for singing, and those verses are the lyrics of the song, which are also known as “song lyrics”, “houses of music”, “movements”, “long and short sentences”, among others.

This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet, presenting five poems from the Song Dynasty, including “Like a Dream” by Li Qingzhao, “Nanxiangzi” by Xin Qiji, “Sand-Sifting Waves” by Wang Anshi, “Calming the Wind and Waves” and “Nian Nu Jiao – Reminiscing Olden Days at Chibi” by Su Shi.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations.
