Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Centenary of the Birth of Henrique de Senna Fernandes” on 13^th October, 2023. Henrique de Senna Fernandes (15^th October, 1923 – 4^th October, 2010) was a renowned writer and prominent lawyer from Macao. He was born in a prestigious Macanese family with Portuguese, Goanese, and Chinese ancestry that had a history of over two hundred years.

Henrique de Senna Fernandes was devoted to writing and achieved remarkable literary accomplishments. As early as his student days, he won the “Literary Award of the University of Coimbra” for his short story “A-Chan, the Tanka Girl”. The Cultural Affairs Bureau has published many of his works, some of which have been adapted into films and received critical acclaims. He also wrote numerous articles, including a series of essays on Macao films that were compiled into the book “Cinema in Macao – From the Early 20th Century to the 1930s”.

Henrique de Senna Fernandes was an erudite and had received numerous honors and awards throughout his life. He was also an exceptional individual with a broad and compassionate humanistic spirit, and also a representative figure of local culture. He left behind a significant artistic legacy for Macao and served as an example for his commitment and contribution in fostering the development of Macao’s culture.

This issue includes a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet. The conceptual design presents Henrique de Senna Fernandes at different ages through stamps, depicting his legendary life through the symbolic images of the three stages of his life: the old, the young and the middle-ages.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Victor Hugo Marreiros, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.
